Steven Spurrier
A Life in Wine
Description
From the moment he was handed a glass of 1908 vintage port by his grandfather at 13 years old, Steven Spurrier knew he would make wine his career. He travelled Europe (his car fitted with a small wine fridge) learning all he could, before heading to Paris to set up shop. As an Englishman, selling wine to the French seemed remarkably bold (if not foolish) move, but the plan worked. Steven’s adventures in wine did not stop there. In 1976, he went on to mastermind the ‘Judgement of Paris’, the France vs California blind tasting that changed the wine world forever. Now in his 80th year, he looks back on a life full of incident and discovery in which he has been privileged to taste, judge and create the finest wines.
Reviews
“Few people have so profoundly informed, guided and inspired generations through their journeys in wine. Steven Spurrier is one of England’s great modern renaissance figures.” – Andrew Caillard MW
